Summer Holidays to Alonissos
Alonissos Sun Holidays Review and Guide
For a relaxing Greek Island holiday you can't go wrong in choosing a summer holiday to Alonnisos. It's a somewhat unique destination because the island is the centre of the National Marine Park, the only ecologically protected marine reserve in Greece. Primarily set up to protect and conserve the highly endangered Mediterranean monk seals, wildlife lovers will enjoy an Alonnisos summer holiday with a chance to observe 50 odd seals as well as other rare flora and fauna.
Due to the terrain, there's no airport so a summer holiday to Alonnisos begins with a boat trip from Skiathos and you disembark at Patiri, the island's capital, a busy port in an attractive cove surrounded by dark green pine clad cliffs. The island is the 3rd largest of the North Sporades and is only 20km long and 5km wide. There's only one main road so you're more likely to see a donkey and cart than a car on an Alonnisos summer holiday but as long as you can get to the beaches of Aghios Dimitrios or Gerakas, does it matter?
Thanks to the cleanest waters in the Aegean Sea, sun and beach lovers will love a summer holiday to Alonnisos. The beautiful beaches are sheltered unspoilt coves tucked amongst the cliffs and even during the main season you'll still find a secluded beach all to yourself. Whether you want to collapse on the beach, gaze at natures wonders or amble around crooked narrow alleyways looking for that quintessential Greek taverna, do it on an Alonnisos summer holiday.
