A summer holiday to Ojén is to sample an interesting village where on one side of the road life carries on as it has for centuries. Narrow cobbled streets and traditional Andalucían houses and buildings with the omnipresent bougainvillea trailing from tiled balconies and huge terracotta pots are a stroller’s delight. Stop for a cooling drink at an elaborate fountain then pop into a café to sample one of the most distinct flavours of an Ojén summer holiday – namely the locally made aguardiente, an anise tasting liquor. Trek up to the Serrania de Ronda to suck in the crisp pure mountain air and exhilarate at the stunning views of Marbella and the Costa 3000 feet below. If you’re lucky you’ll spot an ibex, wildcat or eagle.

Back down on the other side of the village, although still punctuated by the scent of citrus groves, there’s a summer holiday to Ojén in more familiar, less tranquil modern surroundings from where you can strike out for the coast and all the usual Costa del Sol attractions, just a few kilometres away.
