In the new town, life carries on pretty much as in any town anywhere but cross the divide into the old town on a Chania summer holiday and you enter a world of Byzantine architecture around a gorgeous Venetian harbour which is alive with tavern’s and bars and restaurants and clubs that open at midnight and rock through to morning that is if you’ve got the stamina after a day of sight seeing. From Firkas Fort to the magnificent Venetian lighthouse, the area around the harbour is crammed with interest all within the remains of the old city walls.

If your summer holiday to Chania has to include a beach, Golden Beach is within walking distance and there are others within a few kilometres of the town centre. Golden Beach is sandy and well equipped and there are plenty of waterfront restaurants and bars.
