There aren't that many permanent residents on the island and when you take a summer holiday to Halki you swell the existing 200 inhabitants. They practically all live in Nimborios around the almost completely enclosed bay in pastel coloured houses that reflect in the crystal waters of the harbour. The harbour front is looked down upon by a line of windmills up on the ridge and you are guarded on your Halki summer holiday by the ruined Crusader castle on the far hill, the site of the old town which now totally deserted.

This little island has some stunning beaches. If you're looking for a sandy stretch for Halki summer holiday lazy days, head for Pandamos Beach. Ftenagia, Yiali and Kania are rocky little coves and for some real seclusion there's deserted Areta and Trachia. Away from the beaches there are plenty of bars and tavernas around the harbour to re-energise after a sedate day of Halki summer holiday sightseeing.
