If while you’re sitting scrunching your toes in the sand and your view across azure blue water is obscured by a ruined castle on a rocky islet on which there’s also a tiny blue and white chapel it means only one thing...that you have the fortune to be on a summer holiday to Kefalos, and the outcrop opposite is Kastri Island. If you can stir yourself from your cosy position under the warm Greek sun you can swim across to Kastri. The Agios Nikolas monastery is also another trip that can be made by traversing the beautiful warm water. If not, no worries as lying on the beach all day is a perfectly acceptable way to pass the time on a Kefalos summer holiday.
The settlement is one of those typical Greek islands ones where the old village is set away from the beach up the hill and the Kefalos summer holiday resort has been developed close up to the beach. The waterfront area boasts some great restaurants and a couple of small nightclubs, this being one of the larger but quieter places in Kos. Night time entertainment is pretty low key on a summer holiday to Kefalos as is the shopping.
