When you take a summer holiday to Silves you are truly spoiled with a beautiful historic town. The Castelo de Silves is the best preserved castle in the Algarve and the Cathedral is next door so no need to travel far for two magnificent sights. Walk the castle battlements with its eleven towers and enjoy the amazing view of the town. The cathedral is a gothic delight with ancient tombs and you can walk a network of narrow streets down to the town. Other attractions of cultural interest to visit on a Silves summer holiday is the 3m high 16th century Cross of Portugal and the Archaeological Museum. The social life of the town is focussed on the Praça do Municipio, typically pretty with palms and flowers.
